Ingredients

  • 3 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, washed and dried well
  • 10 ounces milk or dark chocolate melting wafers
  • 8 ounces soft caramel squares (1 cup), unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 cup complementary variety chocolate melting wafers (optional but recommended)
  • Mini M&Ms
  • Chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, or peanuts recommended)
  • Other assorted small toppings of your choosing*

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
  2. Slice the apples: Slice each apple from top to bottom into 4 or 5 slices, about 1/2-inch wide.
  3. Insert popsicle sticks: Insert a wooden popsicle stick into the center of each apple slice.
  4. Melt the chocolate: Melt the chocolate wafers using a double boiler or microwave.
  5. Dip the apples: Dip each apple slice into the chocolate, covering just past where the popsicle stick meets the fruit.
  6. Chill the chocolate: Place the dipped apples onto the prepared sheet pan and refrigerate for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Prepare the caramel: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine caramel squares and heavy cream, then microwave until melted.
  8. Add the toppings: Drizzle the cooled caramel over the chocolate-covered apple slices.
  9. Final chill: Return the apple slices to the fridge for an additional 10-15 minutes to set.

Notes

For best results, serve the apples the same day you make them. Get creative with your toppings!
