Chicken Sausage and Orzo Skillet

A delightful one-pan meal featuring chicken sausage, orzo pasta, and vibrant broccoli that is quick to prepare and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup chicken sausage, sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the sliced chicken sausage to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, or until browned and heated through.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant and slightly golden.
  4. Add the orzo pasta and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the broth.
  6. Add the broccoli florets to the skillet about 5 minutes before the orzo is done cooking, ensuring they become bright green and tender yet crisp.
  7. Once the orzo and broccoli are cooked, stir in the grated parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Avoid overcooking the orzo to maintain its texture. Customize with different vegetables or proteins as desired.
