Beef Chili

A satisfying and hearty beef chili packed with flavor and protein, perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat: In a large pot, add the ground beef or turkey over medium heat. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Combine ingredients: Stir in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, chili powder, cumin, and broth. Mix everything well.
  4. Bring to a boil: Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Simmer the chili: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low. Let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows flavors to meld.
  6. Season and serve: Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Once done, remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

Ensuring the meat is fully browned adds depth of flavor. Adjust thickness by simmering uncovered for the last 10 minutes if preferred.
