Apple Pie Bars with Streusel Topping

Delightful bars that combine fresh apples and a buttery streusel topping, perfect for snacks or desserts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups fresh apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish (9×13 inches recommended).
  2. Combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg.
  3. Press about two-thirds of the crust mixture into the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  4. Mix the sliced apples, cinnamon, lemon juice, and brown sugar in another bowl. Spread this mixture over the crust.
  5. Mix the remaining crust mixture with rolled oats and chopped nuts. Sprinkle this topping over the apple layer.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are tender. A toothpick should come out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

Use fresh apples for best flavor. Allow bars to cool completely for easier slicing.
